STARLIGHT
In an eclipsing binary, two orbiting stars overlap from the viewer's point of view. As both stars emit light, the umbra doesn't occur during the eclipse. This phenomenon is recreated in the process of casting a sparkler's shadow which renders the sparks invisible.
